In 1880, William Thomas Keith homesteaded ten acres and built a cabin in 1886. Housing his large family, it became the center of a cotton and tobacco farm, expanding to 190 acres by 1893. The "Louisiana Roof" style cabin featured a wraparound porch and fireplace, representing a rare architectural form in the Gulf States. Keith's varied skills as a farmer and medical practitioner epitomized early rural life in Northwest Florida. The cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and preserves this heritage.
